ENDOGENOUS SOCIAL DISTANCING AND CONTAINMENT POLICIES IN SOCIAL NETWORKS

نویسندگان

چکیده

Can smart containment policies crowd out private efforts at social distancing? We analyse this question from the perspective of network formation theory. focus in particular on role externalities distancing choices. also look how these choices are affected by factors such as agents’ risk perception, speed policy intervention, structure underlying and presence strategic complementarities. argue that crowding is a problem when probability an outbreak may spread undetected relatively high (either because testing too infrequent or tests highly inaccurate). This case where choice relaxing generates largest negative externalities. Simulations real-world suggest more likely to occur when, absence interventions, face-to-face contacts perceived carry risk.

Cost Effective Rumor Containment in Social Networks

The spread of rumors through social media and online social networks can not only disrupt the daily lives of citizens but also result in loss of life and property. A rumor spreads when individuals, who are unable decide the authenticity of the information, mistake the rumor as genuine information and pass it on to their acquaintances. We propose a solution where a set of individuals (based on t...

Endogenous Social Networks

We develop a model of information exchange through communication and investigate its implications for information aggregation in large societies. An underlying state determines payoffs from different actions. Agents decide which others to form a costly communication link with incurring the associated cost. After receiving a private signal correlated with the underlying state, they exchange info...

Corporate Finance Policies and Social Networks

Social network theory suggests that individuals’ preferences and decisions are affected by the actions of others. Such decision externalities arise from constraints on our ability to process or obtain costly information. This paper provides evidence that managers are influenced by their social peers when making corporate finance policy decisions. I create a matrix of social ties using data on c...

Endogenous networks, social games, and evolution

This paper studies a social game where agents choose their partners as well as their actions. Players interact with direct and indirect neighbors in the endogenous network. We show that the architecture of any nontrivial Nash equilibrium is minimally connected, and equilibrium actions approximate a symmetric equilibrium of the underlying game. We apply the model to analyze stochastic stability ...

Communication Information Dynamics in (Endogenous) Social Networks

We develop a model of information exchange through communication and investigate its implications for information aggregation in large societies. An underlying state (of the world) determines which action has higher payoff. Agents decide which agents to form a communication link with incurring the associated cost and receive a private signal correlated with the underlying state. They then excha...
